Policy Regarding Annual Renewals
Effective February 1, 2006, requests for Annual Renewals of approved ACUPs meeting certain criteria began receiving immediate administrative review and approval. Immediate consideration of ACUP re-approval for an additional year is now granted if the following conditions have been satisfied:
There has been no change in any previously approved procedures;
There has been no addition of new personnel;
There have been no unforeseen complications in the study and;
The signature of the Principal Investigator must be present.

Policy Regarding Minor Amendments
Effective March 1, 2006, Minor Amendments to approved ACUPs began receiving immediate administrative review and approval. A Minor Amendment is classified as a:
1. Reduction in the proposed number of animals;
2. Refinement in techniques to be less invasive;
3. Addition of a technique or procedure (analogous to currently approved procedures in
the protocol) that poses no greater degree of invasiveness;
4. Addition of up to 10% of the total number of animals requested;
5. Changes in personnel;
6. Change in strain of animal model and;
7. Change in the gender of the animal model
Amendment requests involving one or more of these changes to the approved ACUP maybe forwarded for immediate review. It is recommended that investigators contact the IACUC office is a proposed Amendment does not involve any of the conditions mentioned above.
It is also recommended that all investigators and research staff refer to the IACUC Guidelines for the IACUC’s Policy on Minor vs. Major Amendments to Animal Activity Protocols.
All Amendments must be on original department letterhead and have the signature of the Principal Investigator.
