that enhancement of research is
a top priority of the university
administration. Our goal is to provide
a stimulating, supportive environment
where research can thrive and grow
and where investigators can be successful
researchers at all stages of their
careers. How do we in the Research
Office plan to accomplish this? more
OVPRSI Supporting Life Science Projects with Formula Funds
The Office of the Senior Vice President
for Research and Strategic Initiatives
is soliciting concept papers to identify
research projects to be supported with
FY2008 tobacco settlement formula funding.
Our intention is to support development
of research projects focusing on life
science and other health-related research
problems. The intent of this program
is to support research leading to major
external grant awards. more
OVPRSI Announces Return Of Overhead Research Incentive Program
The deadline for submission of proposals
for the Spring '08 Return of Overhead
Research Incentive Grant Program funded
by the Senior Vice President for Research
and Strategic Initiatives is Friday,
April 18. Proposals submitted to this
round will be reviewed in May and funded
prior to June 1, 2008. This year's
program will target three groups of
researchers: (1) the Junior Faculty
Grant Program is designed to provide
tenure track junior faculty with support
needed for submission of competitive
grant proposals to external funding
agencies; (2) the Bridge Grant Program
is designed to provide resources to
established faculty so that they can
continue working on either previously
funded projects whose continued funding
has been threatened and (3) new projects
whose first application for funding
was denied but favorably reviewed. more
SRA International Delaware Valley Spring Chapter Meeting
The Delaware Valley Chapter of the
Society for Research Administrators
International will hold it 1st annual
chapter meeting June 9, 2008. This
meeting/conference will be held on
Temple University's Health Sciences
Campus. The presenters and attendees
will be individuals involved in research
administration and/or clinical research
from Universities throughout the Delaware
Valley. This is sure to be an excellent
educational and networking opportunity.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Revised Policy on Enhancing Public Access to Archived Publications Resulting from NIH-Funded Research
As of April 7, 2008, investigators who
receive NIH funding must submit their
final peer-reviewed manuscripts to
PubMed Central no later than 12 months
after acceptance for journal publication.
In addition, for all applications,
proposals or progress reports submitted
for the NIH's May 25, 2008
due date or beyond, investigators will
need to include a PubMed Central reference
number when citing articles they have
authored or co-authored with support
from an NIH award. more

IMPORTANT NOTICE:
New Law on ClinicalTrials.gov
The Food and Drug Administration Amendments Act of 2007 codified
into law the requirements for registration
of clinical trials on CLINICALTRIALS.GOV.
The law is consistent with the previous
registration requirements issued by
International Committee of Journal
Medical Editors (ICMJE) for publication
rights. The U.S. Government does now
mandate additional data elements (that
were previously optional) and has enhanced
the clinicaltrials.gov site to facilitate
full compliance. memo

is provided on grant expenditures,
indirect cost recovery, grant awards,
number of proposals submitted, and
other research-related activities. more
New Fringe Benefit Rates for FY08
Temple University has recently completed
negotiations with the U.S. Department
of Health and Human Services to determine
the employee benefit billing rates
for the upcoming fiscal year. This
agreement will support our claim for
employee benefit reimbursement on grants
and contracts. In addition, rates for
non-government grants and contracts
are developed employing consistent
methodologies. These rates apply to
the year ending June 30, 2008. Full
